Ahead of its 102nd meeting, the newly constituted Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS) embarked on a comprehensive familiarization tour of the various campuses and facilities owned by the university. The tour commenced at the Nyankpala campus, where the Principal, Prof. Muniru Iddrisu, warmly welcomed the council members. Prof. Iddrisu shared insights into the university’s inception at Nyankpala over three decades ago and provided an overview of the diverse courses offered at the Nyankpala Campus.
Thereafter, the Registrar Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar introduced the new council members to the Principal and staff at the Nyankpala campus.
During the tour, the council inspected several key areas:
- Silver Jubilee Building: A project initiated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2018, this building is already being utilized for lectures despite awaiting formal commissioning.
- Collapsed Building on City Campus: Originally intended for offices and lecture halls, this building unfortunately collapsed after heavy rainfall on May 6, 2023.
- Gbanyamli Site: An 18-acre plot of land has been acquired and walled off at the Gbanyamli Campus to prevent encroachment. Plans are underway to develop this site for the University’s School of Business and the proposed Faculty of Law.
- Tamale Campus: The council conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing and completed projects, including residential facilities converted into offices, progress on the ICT complex construction, and sites for twin lecture theatres, Nursing and Midwifery lecture halls, and an auditorium.
