UDS Honoured at 50th SWAG Awards for Historic World Football Triumph

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has earned national recognition after being crowned SWAG Football Personality of the Year at the 50th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre on November 15, 2025.

This prestigious accolade celebrates UDS’s exceptional achievement at the World University Football Championship, where the team made history as the first African university to clinch the title. Their remarkable performance in Dalian, China, including a dramatic extra-time victory over Brazil’s University of Paulista, captured the hearts of football fans across Ghana and beyond.

The Golden Jubilee edition of the SWAG Awards brought together Ghana’s sporting icons, administrators, and rising stars under the theme “Honouring the Best to Inspire the Rest.” UDS’s recognition underscores the growing influence of university sports in shaping Ghana’s athletic future.

Speaking at the event, Sports Minister Kofi Adams commended UDS for “raising the flag of Ghana high on the global stage” and urged institutions to invest more in collegiate sports. The night also featured awards for top athletes such as Antoine Semenyo and Benjamin Asare, alongside lifetime honors for legends like Abedi Pele and Azumah Nelson.

For UDS, this award is more than a trophy—it is a testament to resilience, teamwork, and the power of education-driven sports excellence.
